BIS’s HR Exec Earns ‘SHRM’ Certification,
Advances Company’s HR Objectives
BIS’s Mike Rusnack has earned a Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) Certification, signifying mastery of the HR competencies and knowledge defined in the SHRM Body of Competency and Knowledge (BoCK). More importantly in earning his certification, Mike continues to expand the role of BIS’s HR Department, keeping BIS more competitive in today’s economy.
“Today’s workforce – and today’s modern workplaces like BIS – are vastly different from the way they were as we rolled into the new millennium,” said BIS President and CEO Danny Rotelli. “The pace at which today’s talent is changing continues to evolve at a breakneck pace. That’s why having the best, most knowledgeable Human Resources team is becoming ever-more critical to our organization’s success. Mike’s certification underscores the emphasis we have placed on attracting, hiring, and keeping the right talent.”
Today’s HR Departments and HR leaders operate as key, strategic partners, advocating for topline executives, frontline employees, and most importantly being agents of organizational change.
SHRM is the world’s largest HR professional society, representing 285,000 members in more than 165 countries. For nearly seven decades, SHRM has been the leading provider of resources, serving the needs of HR professionals and advancing the practice of human resource management.
In recent months, BIS has introduced many employee-centric programs, including but not limited to flexible/alternative work schedules, new paid time off policies, enhanced medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) plans, as well as a roster of training programs to help employees in their work and every day lives.
“HR is about effectively implementing knowledge in today’s dynamic workplace,” said Mike. “I am proud to now hold a SHRM certification, but as importantly, I am thrilled to continue my education and bring that knowledge and professionalism to BIS in my role as HR Director. We are a dynamic company with a modern and diverse workforce.”
Mike holds a Master of Science in Human Resources and Personnel Management that he earned in 1991 from Golden Gate University. He joined BIS in 2013 and ran the 4D Center at BIS prior to being named Director of Human Resources. A proud, retired Air Force Lt. Colonel, Mike also spent nearly four years with Devon Energy, leading their records management and information management division.
By earning his SHRM Certification, Mike paved the way for BIS to eliminate an expense area the company had in a third-party vendor that was providing HR consultative services.
Mike says his SHRM certification is valuable because it will help BIS advance its HR department, which now includes Recruiter Chris Corbett, and their goals of building organizational effectiveness; supporting internal business partners; and improving BIS HR capabilities & efficiencies.
BIS believes in leveraging the power of a diverse crowd, employing a wide range of people with different backgrounds and qualifications to support a roster of local, regional, and national clients.
